Honduras recap!! I think I will try to post one of these after each country I visit to summarize the time there. Here goes nothin’.

Location: Urraco Pueblo

Arrival: January 14

Departure: March 2

Days: 48

Team: Emissary – Amanda, Lindsay, Zachary, Ericka, Zach, Me, Jenna (TL), Khurry (SQL)

Ministry: Running the kids feeding program twice a week. Leading worship at the church. Helping at youth activities. Painting/staining the church. Building a bathroom at a local home. Clearing land where a new church will eventually be built.

Favorite memory: On one of our first nights in Urraco, Lindsay, Amanda & I stood up in the back of the truck on the way home as it was pouring rain & we didn’t stop laughing the entire time. We were soaked by the time we got back. Soooo fun.

Worst day: We had a “pila” in our back porch area that held all of the water we used for dishes, laundry, flushing the toilet, showering. We would refill the pila whenever the water was turned on (every few days) & that was our water source. One day, a lady dropped in unexpectedly & told us our pila needed cleaning & drained every last drop of water from it. She scrubbed it & bleached it then turned the faucet on only to realize that the water was NOT on. For three days we couldn’t wash clothes or take showers or wash our dishes. Oof. To say that spirits were high when the water turned back on is an understatement.

Best food: Baleadas! Fresh homeade tortillas with beans, cheese (specific to Honduras) & scrambled eggs. We ate them a lot & got excited every single time.

Worst food: Mondongo soup. Basically gut soup. I did not participate in this delicacy.

A new friend: Carina!! A young lady from the church we partnered with who was born & raised in the pueblo. She was one of the hardest working people I have ever met & did every job with so much joy. I LOVED her company & enjoyed working alongside her in many of the projects we did. Carina will forever be attached to my memories of Urraco!!

Most shocking difference: There were MANY. Life is just so different in the little town of Urraco. Maybe something that shocked me most was the simplicity of the life there. Horse drawn carts & roadside fruit stands are a common sight. No one has data. Houses are small, plain & made primarily from cement. There is no such thing as fast food. So so different from the life we are all used to in the United States.

What I learned: SO MUCH.

I was challenged to know my Bible in ways I never have before.

My perspective shifted in so many ways from living in a more impoverished area & seeing the way that people live up close.

The Lord taught me to depend on Him in ways I haven’t ever before. He showed me how deeply he loves me & cares for me. I have felt so seen & known by Him.

THIS IS HONDURAS!! I hope this gave you more of a glimpse into what these months were like. Obviously, a short blog post cannot capture a full two months of living but I am looking forward to being back home & getting to share more about these experiences. Until then, leave me a comment!! I’d love to hear from you!
